{"id":4181,"date":"2015-02-03T18:12:22","date_gmt":"2015-02-03T23:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.floridacitrus.org\/newsroom\/?post_type=fdoc-news-item&amp;p=139"},"modified":"2015-02-03T18:12:22","modified_gmt":"2015-02-03T23:12:22","slug":"citrus-greening-update-delivered-to-florida-senators","status":"publish","type":"fdoc-news-item","link":"https:\/\/www.floridacitrus.org\/grower\/fr\/fdoc-news-item\/citrus-greening-update-delivered-to-florida-senators\/","title":{"rendered":"Citrus greening update delivered to Florida Senators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Harold Browning, the chief operating officer of the <a href=\"http:\/\/citrusrdf.org\/\">Citrus Research and Development Foundation<\/a>, gave\u00a0an update on citrus greening to the state Senate Agricultural Committee on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During his presentation, Browning emphasized the need to push for commercial development of products that are showing the greatest ability to combat the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have a lot of time. We can\u2019t wait for the science to have a \u2018Eureka\u2019 moment and allow them to publish over a long period time,\u201d Browning said. \u201cWe are actually pulling those results out of their hands and saying we want to find commercial partner, we want to move these results immediately to the test.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CRDF is focused on delivering solutions to growers, Browning said, and moving as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January, Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.floridacitrus.org\/grower\/fr\/newsroom\/news\/commissioner-putnam-calls-for-more-funding-to-fight-citrus-greening-after-citrus-forecast-announced\/\">called for $18 million<\/a> in state funding to help fight citrus greening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A video of Browning\u2019s presentation can be viewed at <a href=\"http:\/\/thefloridachannel.org\/videos\/2215-senate-agriculture-committee\/\">TheFloridaChannel.org.<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Harold Browning, the chief operating officer of the Citrus Research and Development Foundation, gave\u00a0an update on citrus greening to the state Senate Agricultural Committee on Monday.
