{"id":4190,"date":"2015-02-23T10:04:01","date_gmt":"2015-02-23T15:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.floridacitrus.org\/newsroom\/?post_type=fdoc-news-item&amp;p=635"},"modified":"2015-02-23T10:04:01","modified_gmt":"2015-02-23T15:04:01","slug":"japanese-retailers-tour-florida-grapefruit-country","status":"publish","type":"fdoc-news-item","link":"https:\/\/www.floridacitrus.org\/grower\/fr\/fdoc-news-item\/japanese-retailers-tour-florida-grapefruit-country\/","title":{"rendered":"Japanese retailers tour Florida Grapefruit country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group of Japanese retailers visited Florida recently to experience Florida Grapefruit from the grove to the packinghouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For nearly a week in January, the group of eight produce buyers toured groves and packinghouses, ate Florida Grapefruit and met industry members while learning the benefits of buying and selling Florida Grapefruit.&nbsp;The&nbsp;tour was arranged by the Florida Department of Citrus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJapan is our&nbsp;largest export market, so it\u2019s critical we&nbsp;form a connection with those responsible for introducing Florida Grapefruit&nbsp;to new customers,\u201d said Michael Schadler, director of international marketing at the FDOC. \u201cThere\u2019s no better place to do that than in the grove.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dan Richey, of Riverfront Packing, agrees. The group toured his groves and packinghouse as part of the visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cComing to Florida gives retailers in Japan an opportunity to understand our industry and also enables them to project that understanding and enthusiasm for our industry to the consumers,\u201d Richey said. \u201cSeeing the magnitude of the size of the industry and the commitment of the growers is very important in Japan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the 2013-14 season, 24 percent of fresh Florida Grapefruit headed to Japan.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A group of Japanese retailers visited Florida recently to experience Florida Grapefruit from the grove to the packinghouse.
