Proposed by Rep.\u00a0Ben Albritton, the\u00a0funding\u00a0would go toward greening research and promotional activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Florida Citrus Commission Chairman and Florida Orange Grower Marty McKenna spoke to the board\u00a0about the impact an investment would make:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe scientists are working as hard as they can. We just need a little bit of help,\u201d McKenna said. \u201cIt\u2019s an investment in industry. Not a bailout. The growers have given back more to the state than they\u2019ve taken out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Florida Citrus industry is valued at $10.7 billion and provides more than 62,000 jobs.
