{"id":4204,"date":"2015-06-10T12:42:59","date_gmt":"2015-06-10T16:42:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.floridacitrus.org\/newsroom\/?post_type=fdoc-news-item&amp;p=255"},"modified":"2015-06-10T12:42:59","modified_gmt":"2015-06-10T16:42:59","slug":"june-florida-orange-forecast-holds-steady","status":"publish","type":"fdoc-news-item","link":"https:\/\/www.floridacitrus.org\/grower\/fr\/fdoc-news-item\/june-florida-orange-forecast-holds-steady\/","title":{"rendered":"June Florida Orange forecast holds steady"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BARTOW, Fla. \u2013 A report issued Wednesday by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nass.usda.gov\/\">National Agricultural Statistics Service<\/a>\u00a0of the U.S. Department of Agriculture projected no change over last month in the size of this season\u2019s Florida Orange crop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0June forecast\u00a0estimated\u00a0Florida Orange production for the 2014-15 season at 96.4 million boxes. Florida Grapefruit production\u00a0was\u00a0projected at 12.950 million boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Florida Department of Citrus Executive Director Doug Ackerman, \u201cThe stability reflected in today\u2019s forecast is welcome. However, we haven\u2019t lost sight of the bottom-line costs our growers have experienced this season. We are already hard at work on our programs for next season, and we will work closely with the industry to protect and promote the interests of Florida citrus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FDOC, which is funded by box taxes paid by the state\u2019s citrus growers, serves as the chief marketing and promotion arm for the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The USDA will provide a final forecast for the 2014-15 season on July 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Florida Department of Citrus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Florida Department of Citrus is an executive agency of Florida government charged with the marketing, research and regulation of the Florida citrus industry.\u00a0 Its activities are funded by a tax paid by growers on each box of citrus that moves through commercial channels.\u00a0 The industry employs nearly 62,000 people, provides an annual economic impact of nearly $10.7\u00a0billion to the state, and contributes hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenues that help support Florida\u2019s schools, roads and health care services.
