{"id":4218,"date":"2015-07-17T16:29:03","date_gmt":"2015-07-17T20:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.floridacitrus.org\/newsroom\/?post_type=fdoc-news-item&amp;p=376"},"modified":"2015-07-17T16:29:03","modified_gmt":"2015-07-17T20:29:03","slug":"in-the-news-dont-stop-drinking-oj","status":"publish","type":"fdoc-news-item","link":"https:\/\/www.floridacitrus.org\/grower\/fr\/fdoc-news-item\/in-the-news-dont-stop-drinking-oj\/","title":{"rendered":"In the news: Don\u2019t stop drinking OJ"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Two scientific outlets look at how media coverage of the JCO study may be misleading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In an article on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.plos.org\/publichealth\/2015\/07\/13\/citrus-fruit\/\">PLOS (Public Library of Science)<\/a>, researcher Lindsay Kobayashi highlighted the flaws of a study recently published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and how media reports may not tell the whole story, saying \u201cthis study is an example of the kind of research that can lead to a lot of public confusion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the non-profit website\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geneticliteracyproject.org\/2015\/07\/15\/dont-stop-drinking-orange-juice-citrus-cancer-link-overblown\/\">Genetic Literacy Project<\/a>, journalist Meredith Knight takes the same study and looks at how misleading headlines\u00a0can do more harm than good.\u00a0\u201cLast week the CDC released data that showed almost\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/preview\/mmwrhtml\/mm6426a1.htm?s_cid=mm6426a1_w\">no one gets<\/a>\u00a0recommended amounts of fruit (1.5 to 2 cups) or vegetables (2 to 3 cups) in a day. Seventy six percent of us missed the fruit target and 87 percent didn\u2019t get enough vegetables. And we missed by a lot. Most adults are getting less than half.
