Florida Grapefruit production decreased from 5.9 to 5.4 million boxes\nfor the 2019-20 season. The numbers remain steady for Florida Citrus over\n2018-19.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s forecast indicates an\nindustry that remains in transition, but is cautiously optimistic for a bright\nfuture,\u201d said Shannon Shepp, executive director of the Florida Department of\nCitrus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About the Florida Department of\nCitrus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Florida Department of Citrus\nis an executive agency of Florida government charged with the marketing,\nresearch and regulation of the Florida citrus industry.&nbsp;Its activities are\nfunded by a tax paid by growers on each box of citrus that moves through\ncommercial channels.&nbsp;The industry employs&nbsp;50,000 people, provides an\nannual economic impact of&nbsp;$7.2 billion to the state, and contributes\nhundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenues that help support Florida\u2019s\nschools, roads and health care services.
