Florida Citrus Logo

BARTOW, Fla. – The Florida Department of Citrus launched a redesigned digital newsroom Thursday in an effort to better provide up-to-date information on the citrus industry to growers, industry members and consumers.

Designed in collaboration with Winter Haven-based web developer Clark/Nikdel/Powell (CNP), the newsroom is the first step in a redesign of all FDOC websites to be completed this year.

Part of a larger public relations and brand communication plan aimed at increasing the FDOC’s digital presence, the suite of websites will feature consistent branding and easy navigation between sites and social media, inviting consumers to learn more about the nutritional benefits and daily uses of Florida Citrus. The sites will also be optimized for delivery over mobile devices.

The digital newsroom serves as a hub for news on the latest research being done to fight citrus greening as well as updated citrus nutrition information. The site also features news of FDOC’s retail programs, international efforts and original content highlighting the often untold stories of the citrus industry.

According to FDOC executive director Doug Ackerman, “This is one more example of our commitment to adding value to the industry we serve. We always say, ‘We’re here to promote and protect’ — and this online newsroom is a powerful tool in our arsenal.”

Other sites scheduled for redesign include those dedicated to informing consumers on 100% Florida Orange Juice, Florida Grapefruit and the soon-to-be-revealed redesigned Captain Citrus.

“We’re really excited to be helping FDOC reinvent its digital presence,” said Alex Nikdel, president of CNP. “We are proud to be able to guide one of the state’s most revered industries into the digital age.”

Plus, for Nikdel, working with the FDOC was a natural fit.

Nikdel’s father, Dr. Seif Nikdel, spent nearly 20 years working as a research chemist at the FDOC’s science labs in Lake Alfred. His work concentrated on verifying the origins of orange juice being marketed as 100% Florida Orange Juice. He retired 10 years ago and is living in Winter Haven.

About the Florida Department of Citrus

The Florida Department of Citrus is an executive agency of Florida government charged with the marketing, research and regulation of the Florida citrus industry.  Its activities are funded by a tax paid by growers on each box of citrus that moves through commercial channels.  The industry employs nearly 76,000 people, provides an annual economic impact close to $9 billion to the state, and contributes hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenues that help support Florida’s schools, roads and health care services.
